The fifth volume in my series of works in Muskerry Irish is Peadar Ua Laoghaire's Séadna. It includes 38 pages of notes on the text, discussing the criticism of the language of Séadna made by the Four Masters of Ballyvourney, and the Glossary has 1,764 headword entries. The Foclóir do Shéadna has been intensively studied, as has the early Simplified Spelling edition of the book and the English translation of the book. Where the Four Masters seem right on a point and the manuscript is not available, some corrections of the text are made in brackets. E.g. dhá laghar becomes dhá ladhair in my edition. Séadna has been fully printed -I have waited around 10 days to announce this - and my copies have been shipped to me. The link is below, together with the links to the other volumes.

1. Niamh (Ua Laoghaire): 482 pages, 1,440 entries in the Glossary. This is a novel set in the time of Brian Bórú and the Battle of Clontarf.

2. Mo Scéal Féin (Ua Laoghaire): 345 pages, 1,595 entries in the Glossary.
This is Ua Laoghaire's autobiography and I think his most interesting work.

3. Aodh de Róiste (Ó Céileachair): 540 pages, 3,000 entries in the Glossary. This is Dónall Bán Ó Céileachair's translation of a book called Hugh Roach the Ribbonman. This is set during the time of the Crimean War - that is one part of the story - and the other is the eviction of tenants in Tipperary, one of whom then kills the landlord, etc. And it is also a love story. This book is valuable because Dónall Bán went word by word through the book and listed all the passages where An Gúm had altered his text - the correct versions are restored here.

4. Seanmóin agus Trí Fichid/An Teagasc Críostaí (Ua Laoghaire): 578 pages, 2,037 entries in the Glossary.

5. Séadna (Ua Laoghaire): 425 pages, 1,764 entries in the Glossary. This is the most famous novel in Irish, and also one the Four Masters went through word by word and produced a list of corrections for.
