I'm moving your text up into my original message, in case anyone stops there in this thread, so that they will have the right text. The liner notes do contain some spelling and grammar errors, though (which is quite common with liner notes for songs in Irish and Gaelic). I've fixed a few for now, and will work on this again when I get home tonight.

Particularly laughable is what you noted about them mixing up George (King George II) and Charles (Bonnie Prince Charlie) in the second-to-last verse, and the translation of that line is a total screw-up (and doesn't make any sense in the context of the succeeding line). I've made a quick re-translation of that line for now, but will think it through again later.

Annabeth: You may want to wait for a corrected version (others may also chime in with corrections), and note that the translation is somewhat loose in at least some places (I've only glanced through it for now).

Here's what is probably my final post on this thread, to say that I got the CD (with lyrics) and the poetry book, which did not include A Riogain Uasail, unfortunately, but which had a number of other great poems (including the one which became Mo Ghille Mear), and I've updated the full text and translation above with whatever else I've been able to learn. Even though the poetry book came without this song/poem, it came with a lengthy glossary and a discussion of personal and place names, which helped me figure out a few more things which had been unclear. There are still a few places where I'm unsure of the exact meaning of words, or the syntax, since a few words appear to be quite archaic (either entirely, or in the way they are used), but even in those places the essential meaning seems to be pretty clear.

Actually, the Scottish Gaelic in verse 7 correctly says Seòirse (= "George"). One of the translations erroneously has "Charles" instead of "George" (the opposite of what you have stated). So CaoimhínSF and Franc were correct in stating that the translator messed up.

CaoimhínSF has added all the corrections into his first translation above.
